Employment Recruitment Advertising
In conjunction with Human Resource Management and Equity and Campus Diversity, the Marketing and Communications Office is responsible for the production of recruitment (employment) advertising for the college. The Marketing and Communications Office secures advertising space through Graystone Group, an advertising placement agency selected by SUNY. Graystone negotiates pricing and advertising space in publications on behalf of Buffalo State College.

- A minimum of five to seven days is required to develop, approve, and place an advertisement.
- Journal and newspaper deadlines can be as long as two months.
- Departments generally pay for their own recruitment advertising.
- Advertisements are placed only upon receipt of a signed and approved Position Release/Recruitment Plan (PR/RP) form and an employee recruitment ad production sheet.
- Recruitment ads are worded exactly as stated on the PR/RP form and placed in only those publications listed on the form.
- Ads are edited only for editorial style or brevity.
- Departments generally pay for their own recruitment advertising.
- Recruitment ad costs are determined by word count.
- Lengthy position descriptions cost more to advertise.

- Keep job descriptions to a minimum
- Keep preferred qualifications as brief as possible
- Consider the cost of advertising in various publications
Advertising is billed against the account indicated on the employee recruitment ad production sheet signed by the search and department chairs.
Our Office does not place discipline, electronic, or Internet Listserv advertisements; these must be placed by the department or search committee. Care must be taken to copy the exact wording for these ads from the approved PR/RP.
